What have I been feeling lately?
Glad you bloody asked. I’ve been listening quite a bit to Shaolin Jazz – The 37th Chamber. Officially released last month the project was conceived by Gerald Jones and DJ 2 Tone Jones. It explores the parallels, influences and inspirations of jazz in one of the most prolific hip hop collectives, the Wu Tang Clan.

Jazz samplings from greats like Grover Washington Jr, Bobbi Humphrey, Ramsey Lewis, Gene Harris, Herbie Hancock, Lonnie Liston Smith, Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, and Ahmad Jamal underpin the familiar Wu vocal stylings. Personally, I’m delighted to hear two of my greatest loves - Wu and Jazz - brought together on this mixtape.
